Located on an elevated bluff overlooking Mantua Creek, the Mantua Township’s population of nearly 15,000 enjoy some of Gloucester County and South Jersey’s finest homes and recreation all located in under 20 square miles. Mantua, named after the creek and the Indian word “Manta,” meaning frog, continues to draw new residents to it as the famous yearly frog chorus did in colonial times. Created from part of Greenwich Township in 1853, Mantua held its first town meeting in 1853 at the Union School House. The Union School house is currently under renovation and plans call for the school to be used as a senior citizen center and museum.

Chestnut Branch Park has something for the whole family, including basketball courts, an enormous playground, hiking trails, skateboarding areas, tennis courts, softball and baseball fields and a soccer field.

The Ceres Park Nature Preserve is 52.7 acres of pure outdoor recreational enjoyment. Ceres benefits from its attractive waling and jogging trails which lead to the Chestnut Branch of Mantua Creek which is lighted at night. Plenty of playground equipment is available for the little ones and tennis, beach volleyball and basketball courts are draw friendly pick-up games throughout the year. A special feature of Ceres is its roller hockey rink, where local clubs face off in league plays and amateurs get their chance to take to the wheels.
